Abstract

This paper introduces a legal knowledge representation language, PROLEG. PROLEG rules are general rules in the form of Horn clauses and special meta-prediate expressing exceptions. Exceptions are introduced to express negative information in stead of “negation as failure”. It is because reasoning pattern of general rules and exceptions fits lawyers’ reasoning and therefore lawyers understand PROLEG easily. We firstly give the definition of syntax and semantics of PROLEG and show an application for legal reasoning.
