Abstract
When visiting an unfamiliar sightseeing spot, the absence of other individuals can make a visitor feel lonely and hesitant about visiting. In this paper, we propose an AR application that aims to eliminate this psychological reluctance to enter a spot when visiting for the first time. This application enables the user to know information about visitors (numbers of people and their attributes) who have visited a spot recently through a visualization mechanism in which CG human-shaped objects are overlapped on the spot image acquired by the camera on the visitor’s own tablet PC. To examine the effectiveness of the proposed application in a controlled settings, we developed an experimental environment in which users can experience the proposed application in a VR space by operating a virtual tablet. The experimental results suggested that this visualization approach based on CG humanoid objects with motion and attributes contributes to the psychological ease of visiting spots and enhances the desire to visit.
