Abstract

From the perspective of passengers’ cognitive needs, this paper discusses the impact of changes in subway space on passengers’ cognitive activities in the current development of subway. Based on the theory of emotional design, it focuses on the application of emotional factors brought by regional culture in subway sign design. It can provide theoretical basis and practical model for the healthy development of metro spatial information dissemination and regional culture. The purpose of this study is to explore the new needs of passengers under the condition of subway station expansion and complex development through investigation, and to explore the application of regional culture based on emotional design in subway space identification from the perspective of cognitive needs. Based on the grounded theory, this paper constructs the theoretical framework of emotional regional culture in Wuhan Jiedaokou subway Station. According to this theoretical framework, the location sign of escalator on the riding floor of subway Station No. 8 is designed. The results show that the design of subway space signs based on the affective region theory can help to lower the threshold of cognitive active behavior and improve the cognitive needs of subway passengers for signs.
