Abstract

In this research, we designed an online cross-cultural communication aid SeeCC, which can provide individual-level cultural portrait and real-time communication tips. We conducted an experiment to test the effectiveness of SeeCC in promoting cross-cultural skills and performance. Sixty participants from multiple cultural backgrounds were recruited to complete online collaboration tasks. The results showed that (1) SeeCC significantly improved users’ skills in online cross-cultural communication, and (2) the expert-evaluated outcome quality was better with SeeCC than without it, confirming the effectiveness of SeeCC in improving cross-cultural communication and collaboration performance. The results indicated great potential for SeeCC to be used in cross-cultural training and global collaboration support.
