Flipped Classroom Method in Higher Education: A Case of Kazakhstan

Abstract

This study is set to explore flipped classroom method in Kazakhstan higher education. Teachers from eleven universities participated in the survey. Observation, questioning, counting, and comparison were used as the main research methods. The results are reported with respect to distribution of the flipped classroom method in the system of higher education in Kazakhstan, along with the influence of social factors on the use by teachers of the flipped classroom method, areas of knowledge, where the flipped classroom method is used for teaching in the higher education of Kazakhstan, the main reasons for using the flipped classroom method in the universities, the main reasons for not using the flipped classroom method in Kazakhstani universities, as well as description of difficulties in using the flipped classroom method. The results of our study can be beneficial for educators and researcher to guide their future studies on flipped classroom, especially their design and implementation.
