Abstract

Disabled people require particular services and a friendly environment to achieve accessibility, autonomy, and inclusion in every aspect of their daily lives. All related stakeholders should contribute to these targets. The shopping experience and the new forms of packaging that incorporate new interactive technologies are highly important for disabled people. The study aims to emerge a conceptual framework that includes beyond disabled people, the issues of packaging, purchase, and product management, and how the various stakeholders may impact those. The study sample included people with mobility, vision, and hearing problems and their caregivers (n = 12). The Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) was applied to collect the required information. Initially, a detailed discussion in a focus group took place about those people’s problems when interacting with packaging and shopping; furthermore, based on the relevant literature, all agreed and designed a rich picture and the study’s outcome. In addition, interviews with three (3) persons led to a related stakeholder analysis and then answered some general specific questions (PQR). The close cooperation of people with disabilities and private and state-owned organisations based on the real needs of these people is strongly recommended. This cooperation leads to providing higher quality services to disabled persons, and specific actions should be taken to facilitate their shopping experience, mainly through advanced forms of packaging. The study offers valuable insights to the disabled people community, practitioners, policy-makers and academicians.
