Interactive Storytelling (ICIDS 2023)

Abstract

“Tierschutz erLeben” is an ongoing research and development project. It aims to innovate the learning experience and knowledge transfer on the subject of animal welfare in agricultural training. We are currently devising concepts for interactive comics for learning. We call the framework a “Comic Automaton”. We expect several benefits from using interactive comics, including efficient learning and an agreeable and engaging experience promoting exploratory learning. We present the current state of the Comic Automaton, the system design decisions that are currently pending, and the relevant considerations and methods to answer open questions. We believe that an explicit understanding of the design options is necessary for the development process of such a complex system. Formative evaluation results with students of agriculture so far are very encouraging.
