Abstract
Using network analysis, this paper analyzes export surges of commodities from U.S. states to examine their connectedness along industrial and inter-state ties, and how they propagate through the trade network along these ties. Our findings suggest that export surges tend to be highly skewed towards particular goods, that these surges spread according to higher-order structural dependencies in the supply chain, and that increases of export surges were defined by preferential attachment.
