Abstract
In Ecuador, numerous dental care facilities can be found, many of which are public. However, the organization of these centers has limitations. Recognizing the potential benefits that a specialized web application could offer to dental offices; we propose the development of such an application. We employ a case study approach as a research methodology to explore the development of an open-source web application in the field of dental health. The primary objective of this study is the creation of an open-source web application called “OralDentalSoft,” designed to enhance the management of dental offices. We utilize the OSCRUM methodology for the development of this application to ensure efficiency and security. “OralDentalSoft” aims to improve the interaction between dental offices and their patients, providing a more efficient service. For this research, we conducted a systematic literature search. We highlight that, as of the date of this study, we have not found reports of open-source web applications specifically designed for dental offices. “OralDentalSoft” offers efficient record-keeping and control of information and activities related to dental health. User evaluation results indicate substantial improvements in information management and recording, optimization of the time spent on scheduling medical appointments easily and quickly, and more effective patient service. In conclusion, the web application developed using the methodology employed emerges as a beneficial tool for dental offices, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of their processes.
