A Study on the Audience’s Perception Differences of the “New Culture” Animated Movie “A Journey of Thirty Thousand Kilometers in Chang’an”

Abstract

With the burgeoning progress of the global economy, animated films steeped in traditional cultural themes, as a distinctive genre, predominantly orbit around authentic or fanciful myths, legends, or allusions entrenched in traditional heritage. Delving into the cognitive variances discerned among audiences engaging with these animated embodiments of cultural legacy not only serves the purpose of preserving and propelling traditional ethos but also augments viewers’ cultural assurance and gratification derived from an enchanting cinematic sojourn, thereby proffering novel insights for the cinematic artisans. This investigation focalizes on the Chinese audience, employing the inaugural opus of the “New Culture Series” animated film, titled “A Journey of Thirty Thousand Kilometers in Chang’an,” as an exemplar to scrutinize cognitive differentials among diverse spectators. The research yields the following revelations: (1) male spectators exhibit heightened emotional discernment of adverse sentiments compared to their female counterparts; (2) adolescents and those in the throes of middle age express resounding approval of the film, coupled with an intricate spectrum of emotional cognition; (3) audiences from assorted professional domains, notably those in film and animation, design, arts, history, philosophy, and scientific pursuits, evince markedly elevated ratings in both film evaluation and emotional acumen; (4) audiences endowed with higher educational attainments manifest a more profound cognitive appreciation of the film, while those with more modest educational backgrounds unveil a wealthier tapestry of emotional cognizance; (5) the mode of film consumption significantly influences audience appraisals and emotional acuity, with favorable online viewing experiences precipitating a more enriched emotional discernment in the spectatorship.
