Abstract
Major factors related to the social sustainability of digital libraries have been discussed. Some indicators for the social sustainability of digital libraries have been proposed. A conceptual model and a theoretical research framework for study of the social sustainability of digital libraries is proposed. It is argued that the social sustainability of digital libraries can and should be studied at different levels – from the very broad issues of sustainable development of societies and communities to more specific issues of information seeking and retrieval, ICT infrastructure and tools for access to, and use of, digital libraries.
