Definitions

Online gaming architecture refers to the distributed system architecture that is employed to support an online game session with multiple participants, geographically distributed and connected through the Internet.

Networked Multiplayer Games

Networked multiplayer games are contributing to an increasingly large proportion of network traffic (Suznjevic et al. 2013). In order to support massive multiplayer online games, users must be provided with scalable architectures, able to handle a large number of players geographically distributed over the network that play together. This forces the use of specific solutions, specifically thought for online gaming applications.
