Abstract

Computer network optimisation is vital for reducing the costs of the networks, achieving the efficiency, robustness and uniform distribution of the traffic. For network of computers, optimisations are achieved for various aspects such as cost of data transfer, maximum data transfer per unit time, capacity utilisation, uniform traffic distribution. One of the important aspects of computer networks is network topology represented using graph theoretic concepts. Graph theory provides a strong mathematical framework for optimisation of the topology. In this paper, network topology is optimised based on uniform node degree distribution. Uniform degree distribution is achieved just by redistribution of links without any deletion or addition of links to ensure that traffic is uniformly distributed throughout the network and every node is fully utilised without much deviation from average network traffic load. Uniform degree distribution can ensure that traffic cannot be congested, traffic load is distributed and can help in utilisation of the network to its fullest capacity. Owing to these importances, computer network topology is optimised based on Node degree distribution.
