Abstract

The paper proposes a model for improving task scheduling in light project management. The model is implemented in a collaborative task management tool, which provides automatic task allocation based on ontological representations of project tasks and team members’ profiles, social media integration, customization of notification, task plan templates, task progress awareness and reminders. The paper presents the methodology used to gather the requirements for the tool, the principles applied to obtain a successful product, the technical and functional description of the application, as well as the way in which it can improve the workflow of project management activities in a cross-functional virtual team. The novelties brought by the tool are the fact that it exploits the social profiles of the users: when a project is started, it provides a recommendation of the project team members based on their workload (extracted from their declared events) and on their expertise.
