Abstract
Enterprise Models are the central asset that supports Enterprise Architecture, as they embody enterprise and IT knowledge and decisions. Static analysis over this kind of models is made by inspecting certain properties and patterns, with the goal of gaining understanding and support decision making through evidence. However, this is not a straightforward process, as the model in its raw form is rarely suitable for analysis due to its complexity and size. As a consequence, current approaches focus on partial views and queries over this model, leading to partial assessments of the architecture. In this paper, we propose a different approach to EA analysis, which consists on the incremental assessment of the architecture based on the interaction of the user with visualizations of the whole model. We implemented our approach in a visual analysis tool, PRIMROSe, where analysts can rapidly prototype custom functions that operate on topological or semantic properties of the model, combine partial insights for sounder assessments, associate these findings to visual attributes, and interact with the model using multiple visualization techniques.
