Abstract

In cognitive radio networks (CRNs), efficient spectrum utilization can be achieved in both the time and space domains through temporal spectrum sharing and spatial spectrum sharing, respectively. Joint temporal and spatial spectrum sharing has been considered to decrease the outage probability, but the capacity and spectrum utilization of spectrum sharing techniques has not been examined. Thus in this paper, the capacity and spectrum utilization of temporal, spatial, and joint time-space spectrum sharing are derived. Results are presented which show that joint time-space spectrum sharing has better performance in terms of capacity and spectrum utilization.
