Abstract

A novel fractal microwave absorber is proposed to operate within the UHF-RFID band for the reduction of multipath adverse effects. Good miniaturization capabilities are demonstrated for a 868 MHz absorber unit cell with an absorptivity more than 99% and a very thin substrate thickness (≤λ0/100 at the operating frequency). Thanks to its compactness and effectiveness in achieving perfect absorption, the proposed configuration is appealing for those applications operating in confined indoor environments.
