Abstract
The title of this chapter describes the common denominator of the contributions given by the research group of the University Mediterranea of Reggio Calabria to the SEBD community. These contributions are mainly devoted to study non-core problems of databases, by moving towards border line issues to look for cross-fertilization coming from different related domains. This chapter offers a view over these contributions given in three different domains: efficient structures for approximate OLAP, social data and social networks, and the cybersecurity perspective.
