Abstract
The present study aims to use learning analytics to explore the meaning of effective exploratory learning behavior in the context of practical, collaborative activities using physical computing kits. To find relevant ways of analysing the data which are strongly embedded in the learning context, four unique affordances of exploratory learning environments are identified from literature: responsive, social, open-ended and supportive. This paper proposes a set of data signifiers which may be used to generate visualisations into the ways in which the four affordances manifest themselves into the learning environment through the students’ actions.
