Abstract
Radar equipped with tracking devices, as the basic technical means for observation used on sea-going vessels, is characterized by many disadvantages. The basics include dependence of detection capabilities on hydro meteorological conditions, low accuracy of the detected object motion vector determination and dependence of this accuracy on the stability of the own ship’s motion, time delay of manoeuvre detection and lack of information identifying the opposite vessel. The use of the automatic identification system should eliminate or reduce these limitations. The paper presents the results of researches conducted on sea-going vessels to verify the accuracy of data transmitted and displayed by AIS ship’s equipment and compare it with the accuracy of radar tracking devices.
