Abstract

As advanced Web-based applications require dealing with diverse types of multimedia data, it is necessary to store, retrieve, and manage multimedia data from disparate sources in a single data warehouse. In this paper, we present a semantics-based method to manage multimedia data. First, we propose a data model that represents multimedia contents and captures semantic relationships among different types of multimedia data. Second, we develop a version management technique for multimedia objects without loss of semantic information. The prototype system has been implemented on top of native XML database system.
