Abstract
Automatic video segmentation is a necessary step before indexing the large amount of video data. Transitions in video can be divided into two types: abrupt transition and gradual transition. Abrupt transition is called “cut” and is formed when one shot is followed by another shot with totally different characteristic. Gradual transition is the one in which shot boundary is not clearly visible. Fade in/out, wipe, and dissolve are examples.
