Abstract
We present here a new method for the determination of renal kinetic parameters from time-activity curves (TACs) obtained in dynamic tomographic Nuclear Medicine studies. The method allows to achieve subsecond sampling rates when using three-headed Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) systems.
We used three-projections data sets in order to directly reconstruct region-of-interest (ROI) contents and to achieve an accurate description of the TACs. By defining a kinetic model for the behavior of the tracer we were able to relate each sampling point of the renal TAC to the correspondent point of the plasmatic TAC (input function).
We analyzed simulated projections in 81 cases of region segmentation errors: the values of the renal clearances were reproduced within about -12% and +4%. The vascular fractions were reproduced within the measurement errors.
