Abstract
Since the capillary diffusion of powerful computing systems Medical Imaging has undergone a profound transformation providing new ways to physicians to conduct research and perform diagnosis and prevention. In this work a computational environment for medical imaging purposes based on a grid architecture is used to build a medical imaging application. It results from the interaction of scientists devoted to the design and deployment of new tomographic reconstruction techniques, researchers in the field of distributed and parallel architectures and physicians involved with tomographic imaging. The single software, hardware and medical components are described. Their integration into a distributed framework provides mutual benefits to both the scientific and the medical community, and represents the basis for the creation of a global, scientific, virtual community that reaches beyond the limits of space, remotely sharing not only physical resources but also experience and knowledge.
