Abstract
Computer supported cooperative knowledge management in mobile environments demands spontaneous interconnected applications supporting the users in their cooperation process. These applications often have to deal with heterogeneous network environments, the natural domain of peer-to-peer architectures. While several protocols and frameworks for peer-to-peer computing already exist (e.g. JXTA), opportunities for bringing cooperative objects and services together in shared knowledge spaces are not provided. This paper presents an architectural approach for an ad-hoc cooperation environment called Swifff. It provides distributed knowledge spaces based on the peer-to-peer framework JXTA. The paper points out basic needs for the desired cooperation system and presents related work in the field of CSCW. Additionally, it introduces our fundamental concepts and describes the architecture of our framework. This paper is concludes with a discussion of the solution we have achieved so far and gives a insight into our future research goals.
