Abstract

As the number of portable devices roaming across the Internet increases, the problem of routing packets to mobile hosts generates increasing research and commercial interest. This paper presents a mobile-node-assisted scheme to support localized mobility in the Internet in a distributed fashion. In the proposed scheme, a mobile node is enhanced to utilize an access router in a foreign domain as an anchor point in the domain. On the other hand, entities in the network-side are only required to provide Mobile IPv6 functionalities in this scheme. Our scheme has three main benefits; reducing the load on the backbone of the Internet, scalability, and interoperability.
