Abstract
A prototype Internet-Integrated Manufacturing (IIM) system has been built based on the Internet, which provides a generic infrastructure and the World-Wide Web, which provides a common user interface. Manufacturing services can be registered with a central server acting as a manager. A user, equipped with only a standard Web browser, can look up various manufacturing services registered with the manager, use a Web-based computer-aided solid design software to interactively collaborate with remote group members to design a product, invoke file format translation services, create a physical model through rapid prototyping, and examine images of the rapidly-produced specimen, without installing any special software, or leaving the office.
