Abstract
A simplified FPGA global model supporting timing-driven placement and global routing is presented. A real Xilinx XC4000 family FPGAs environment was modelled this way and the model was used by timing-driven algorithms using an integrated approach [4]. The performance of this type of model compared to a complex global model [1,2] was evaluated. The tests were based on real designs and MCNC benchmarks using an experimental system [3] interacting with Xilinx XACT design system.
