Abstract

The paper addresses design and development of an interactive, fully labeled Talairach-Tournoux/Schaltenbrand-Wahren based electronic brain atlas system. The primary goal of our atlas is to allow the user to choose any name from the anatomical index, find the corresponding object in the MRI/CT data, and visualize, manipulate in real-time and quantify it in 2—D/3—D. The atlas system provides several tools for registration, visualization, image processing and analysis, reformatting, anatomical index operations, object extraction/editing, quantification, and file handling. The atlas system is implemented in C++ and uses texture mapping. The work is a precursor to a fully computational 3—D brain model and atlases supporting function, vasculature, pathology, and brain connections.
