Abstract

There is a custom that a lot of people put out the New Year greeting postcard at the New Year’s Day in Japan. The sentences of or , are well used as objections of the New Year greeting postcard. It is general that those characters are written without frames usually. In this work, those characters were used for writer recognition. Especially, the influence that the presence of the frame exerted on the recognition accuracy was examined. The new local arc method was used as a feature extraction method. As a result of the examination, it has been understood that the presence of the frame has great influence on the character shape and that a dictionary made from the framed character has to be used.
