Abstract
This introduction provides an overview of the missions and activities of the two involved research centres, CENS (Centre for Nonlinear Studies) in Tallinn, Estonia, and CMA (Centre of Mathematics for Applications) in Oslo, Norway. It also gives a description of the main features of the EU FP6 Marie Curie Transfer of Knowledge project CENS-CMA, from which this book originated.
