Abstract

The paper gives an overview of various acoustic localization techniques focusing on direction-of-arrival (DOA) based methods. It presents a wireless sensor board, called Octopus, with eight acoustic channels for advanced acoustic source localization based on the DOA algorithms. The FPGA based Octopus hardware architecture proposed is designed to provide an excellent platform for implementing various advanced ranging and DOA based localization algorithms.
