Abstract

XML is a standard representation format for data operated in web environment, a variety of XML data management systems are becoming available for maintaining web information residing in web pages of their respective websites. There are various indexing techniques under each database system for transferring the data between the XML documents and the database system. This paper tries to sum some of the techniques up, classify them and to evaluate their advantages and disadvantages. Our purpose is to contribute to a better understanding of these indexing techniques and explore the suitability of these indexing techniques for web applications.
