Abstract

The wide-spread interest in 3D imagery that was proliferated by successful recent film experiences has triggered a wave of research and investment in immersive 3D visualization techniques. A new domain of deployment for these display systems will be that of handheld mobile devices with diverse and heterogeneous usage scenarios. The design of interfaces for these devices and usage patterns will pose a complex set of research questions revolving around the integration of virtual space, real space and social space. This article identifies some of the main threads and research directions in this complex.
