Abstract
Multicast has been used as a one-to-many approach to deliver information; it is based on the idea that if one packet of data should be transmitted to several recipients, the information should be sent by the origin just one time. In this paper, we propose the use of IP based Pragmatic General Multicast (PGM) to distribute content and to make distribution more efficient; we combine it with a P2P approach. We focus on the problem of data redundancy (at each node), congestion and contention and show how severely it impacts the network economics and the experience of end-user and hence leads to low traffic load and redundancy.
