Abstract

Social interaction, in the virtual world increases as social network services prevail worldwide. This has triggered a requirement for a new kind of literacy that is necessary to enjoy a daily life in the virtual world. It is not only social interaction, but also the rise of item-purchasing in the virtual world that has lead to another kind of education for the younger generation. The author discusses the new requirements for literacy in the 21st century from the viewpoint of increased social network services and their applications.
