Abstract

The exponential growth in the use of wireless technology in recent years has transformed local communities into information-network societies. As a consequence, governments go digital as part of their strategic plans to improve their systems and services to businesses and citizens by utilizing Information and Communication Technologies. It is the objective of this study to employ mobile technology to provide citizens with real-time data and information from government authorities to empower them to participate electronically in decision making or to send urgent warnings to officials or receive important alerts from local authorities. This research developed an interactive electronic system, “Citizen Aid” that connects local authorities and city officials with citizens, to enhance electronic interaction between them using their mobile phones to ensure their safety, whether reporting traffic jams or warning of risks that may threaten the life of any citizen or infrastructure.
