Abstract

I was introduced to Prof. Dr. Lotfi A. Zadeh in 1970 Summer by Robert Macol, then the President of Operations Research Society of America (ORSA) at a Nato Advanced Study Institute meeting in Istanbul Turkey. In 1971, one of my research students gave me a copy of Zadeh’s first paper called Fuzzy Sets. In 1972, Prof. Zadeh came as a member of an accreditation team to visit our Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto. At our Faculty Club Lunch held during that visit, Prof. Zadeh told me that he was born in Baku Azerbaijan. From that moment on, I attended Prof Zadeh’s lectures at various conferences for the next 5 years or so.
