Zusammenfassung
Das Königreich Thailand liegt auf dem südostasiatischen Festland. Unter den Ländern der sogenannten Dritten Welt nimmt es keine Ausnahmestellung wie Brasilien oder Indien ein, deren Entwicklung durch ihre Größe bedingt ein besonders breit gefächertes Spektrum aufweist. Auch ist Thailand kein Schwellenland wie Singapur oder Mexiko, die als neuindustrialisierte Staaten an dem Übergang zum Industrieland stehen. Als Besonderheit ist aber zu erwähnen, daß es, anders als alle Nachbarländer, nie Kolonie einer europäischen Macht war.
