Abstract

A parallel two-level approach based on the behaviour of honey bees is proposed in this paper for Traffic Grooming in optical networks. In this Telecommunication problem, the complexity increases exponentially depending on either the size of the network or the amount of low-speed traffic. Therefore, the use of a parallel evolutionary algorithm is a promising option for facing this optical problem in a suitable amount of time. In this way, we present a multiobjective evolutionary algorithm based on swarm intelligence, the Multiobjective Artificial Bee Colony (MO-ABC) algorithm. Furthermore, we design a parallel two-level MO-ABC by using OpenMP and MPI with the aim of exploiting several multi-core systems in the same interconnecting data network. After testing the parallel performance of the parallel proposal in a machine with four 8-core nodes (32 cores), we observe that it is able to obtain around 80% of average efficiency with 32 cores.
