Zusammenfassung

Das rasante Wachstum des World Wide Web (WWW) hat eine allgemein akzeptierte, plattformunabhängige Basis für die Informationsbereitstellung und -präsentation geschaffen. Um große Informationsmengen einfach zur Verfügung stellen und Geschäftsvorgänge sicher verwalten zu können, bedarf es des Einsatzes von Datenbanksystemen (DBS), was die Anbindung von DBS an das WWW impliziert. An die DBS ergeben sich, wenn man WWW-basierte Anwendungen unterstützen möchte, neue Anforderungen. Sie entstehen u. a. durch die neuen multimedialen Datentypen, die stark wachsenden Informationsmengen, den weltweiten Zugriff sowie die Koexistenz zu Legacy-Applikationen. In diesem Beitrag stellen wir zunächst die derzeit vorhandenen Techniken zur DB-Anbindung vor und zeigen künftige Entwicklungen. Wir klassifizieren die unterschiedlichen Techniken, analysieren ihre Stärken und Schwächen und geben Beispiele. Daran anschließend erarbeiten wir die sich an DBS ergebenden neuen Anforderungen.
