Zusammenfassung
One of the most significant problems introduced by the advent of 3rd generation, multiprogramming systems was the difficulty of ‘seeing’ what was going on inside a system. The interaction of the system configuration and the specific workload, under control of a sometimes mysterious operating system did not produce the level of performance that the user was led to expect.
