Im GMD-Netz ist ein rekursives System von Kommunikationsprotokollen auf einer rekursiven Kanalstruktur implementiert. Multiplexen und Demultiplexen von Datenströmen, Blocken und Entblocken, Pufferverwaltung, Flußkontrolle und Error-Recovery sind Bestandteil dieser Protokolle.
