In modernen kommerziellen Systemen unterstützt, steuert und kontrolliert die Firmware weitaus mehr Funktionen als die Hardware. Das bedeutet, daß die Anzahl der geschriebenen und auszuführenden Firmware Instruktionen die Anzahl der Schaltkreise um ein Mehrfaches übersteigt.
