Summary

Intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring has become part of normal neurosurgical practice. A mathematical model of cerebro spinal fluid (CSF) dynamics has been developed including clinical and experimental results which could be described by mathematical expressions. This model permits interpretation of the morphology of the intracranial pulse wave and of the pulse pressure relationship of ICP. In particular the influence of arterial and venous blood pressure upon this relationship was analysed. The analysis of these relationships based only on clinical or experimental data is impossible without application of a model because of the high variability of the parameters under consideration.
