Kurzfassung

Fünf Jahre nach Vorliegen des OSI-Referenzmodells wird eine kritische Wertung versucht. Der Beitrag beginnt mit einer Kurzdarstellung der zum Architektur- und Schichtenmodell führenden Strukturierungsprinzipien und einem Hinweis auf Auswirkungen der Beschäftigung mit offener Kommunikation auf Forschung und Entwicklung. Danach folgt eine Diskussion neuer Anforderungen und offener Fragen an das Referenzmodell. Diese streifen die Themenkreise Angemessenheit der OSI-Schichtung, Implementierung von OSI-Konzepten, OSI-Netzmanagement und OSI-Konformität. Der Beitrag schließt mit einem Ausblick auf mögliche OSI-Weiterentwicklungen.
