Abstract
The different QoS requirements of different classes of traffic ask for priority strategies. In this paper we compare several priority schemes that have been proposed in literature. The QoS requirements are often complementary: some traffic classes require a low cell loss probability, others demand low cell delay jitter. The delay-loss plane is introduced to compare priority schemes in the case of two priority classes. Comparisons are made for stationary and time-varying traffic. It shows that the so called LDOLL threshold policies are optimal among the class of work conserving policies.
