Zusammenfassung
The development of information technology is characterised by decreasing hardware costs in combination with fierce competition between chip and computer manufacturers resulting in a concentration process of the industry on one side, and by sharply rising software expenditures on the other. The reasons for the latter are the relatively low degree of auto-mation of software engineering and the high costs of skilled software developers. Whereas the demand for software engineers exceeds the supply in the highly industrialised nations, in less industrialised and developing countries there is a large number of highly educated and well-trained young scientists and engineers available for employment in the software industry.
