Abstract

We describe the prototype of a face tracker capable of real time tracking of persons moving about freely in a room. The system consists of a stereo camera pair mounted on a computer controlled pan-tilt unit, all connected to a workstation with frame grabber. The face tracker has a color based skin detector and a simple automatically adapting 2D face model for robust and fast face localization, allowing the face tracking vision module to operate at video speed (25 frames/sec). For synchronization of image acquisition and camera movement a model of the kinematics of the head system has been developed.
