Abstract

Databases constitute a natural repository for storing information dealt with by hypermedia applications. Many works have investigated how to design the database model to support an hypermedia application. Another viewpoint consists in starting from an existing database and designing hypermedia front-ends to it. In this paper, we propose an approach to design hypermedia applications using the data stored in an existing database. The approach is based on a metamodel, that integrates the two environments through their respective models, thus enabling the hypermodel application evolve with the database. We apply the proposed approach to the PORTINARI Project, concerning the most famous Brazilian painter. The approach is generic and can be used to build hypermedia interfaces to any existing database.
